Salmon Technical Team and Scientific and Statistical Committee’s Salmon Subcommittee to hold joint online meeting October 11-12, 2023

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Pacific Council) Salmon Technical Team (STT) and Scientific and Statistical Committee’s Salmon Subcommittee (SSC-SC) will hold a joint online meeting and is open to the public. The Model Evaluation Workgroup may also contribute and participate in this meeting. The online meeting will be held Wednesday and Thursday, October 11-12, 2023 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time daily, as needed. Meeting times are an estimate, the meeting will end when business for the day has been completed.

This meeting is being conducted remotely with a web broadcast that provides the opportunity for remote public comment. Purpose of the meeting

Groundfish Management Team to hold online work session October 16-20, 2023

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Pacific Council) Groundfish Management Team (GMT) will hold a weeklong online work session that is open to the public. The purpose of the meeting is to prepare materials for the 2025-2026 harvest specifications and management measures and discuss other items on the Pacific Council’s November 2023 meeting agenda.  The online work session will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, from 1 p.m. Pacific Time until business is completed for the day. The GMT will reconvene on Tuesday, October 17 through Friday, October 20, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time until business for each day has been completed. This meeting is being conducted remotely with a web broadcast that provides the opportunity for remote public comment. No management actions will be decided by the meeting participants. The participants’ role will be development of recommendations and reports for consideration by the SSC and the Pacific Council at a future Council meeting. The Pacific Council and SSC are scheduled to consider the Ecosystem and Climate Information for Species, Fisheries, and Fishery Management Plan Initiative 4 at their March 2024 meeting in Fresno, California.

The updated version of the Accepted Practices Guidelines for Stock Assessments will be posted on the Pacific Council’s website shortly after the meeting. The Pacific Council will be considering two administrative items related to the ONMS at its September meeting. The Coral Restoration and Research Plan will discuss the consideration of new areas for coral research and restoration in the Greater Farallones and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuaries. The Council will begin scoping this item in September and will consider the areas that may be closed to fishing and to what fisheries the closures would apply. The Chumash Sanctuary Designation item will focus on the proposed designation documents and regulations for the new Sanctuary, with particular focus on any proposed regulations that may affect fishing activities under the Council’s jurisdiction. This presentation is aimed at a broad audience of Council members, advisory body members, and the public. Pacific Council and ONMS staff may follow up with more targeted discussions with advisory bodies during their September meetings will also brief the Council directly.
