The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Pacific Council) Coastal Pelagic Species Management Team (CPSMT) will hold an online public meeting.
The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Pacific Council) will convene a Stock Assessment Review (STAR) Panel meeting to review the 2024 Pacific sardine stock assessment. The meeting will be co-hosted by the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center and will be held Wednesday, February 21 through Friday, February 23, 2024. The meeting will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time and will continue until 5 p.m. or until business for the day has been completed.
This meeting will be held at the Pacific Room of the Southwest Fisheries Science Center at 8901 La Jolla Shores Drive, La Jolla, CA 92037.This meeting will be held in person but will be broadcast with the opportunity for remote public comment. In the event an outage occurs or technical issues arise that impact the experience of remote attendees, we will attempt to resolve them but ultimately we cannot guarantee that they will be resolved satisfactorily.
The primary purpose of the meeting is to provide a technical review of the Pacific sardine stock assessment. The review panel will consist of at least three members of the Pacific Council’s Scientific and Statistical Committee’s Subcommittee on Coastal Pelagic Species (CPS) and at least one independent expert from the Center for Independent Experts. Representatives of the Pacific Council’s CPS Management Team and the CPS Advisory Subpanel will also participate in the review as advisers.

The Coastal Pelagic Species (CPS) Subcommittee of the Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Pacific Council’s) Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC) will hold an online meeting to update the Accepted Practices Guidelines for CPS Stock Assessments document. The meeting is open to the public and will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 12 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time or until business for the day has been completed. The purpose of the SSC CPS Subcommittee’s meeting is to update best practices for conducting CPS stock assessments. Recommendations of SSC CPS Subcommittee members will inform the Accepted Practices Guidelines for Stock Assessments in 2024, which is a compilation of guidelines for CPS stock assessment scientists. The full SSC and the Pacific Council will review the Accepted Practices Guidelines for Stock Assessments as recommended by the SSC CPS Subcommittee at the November Pacific Council meeting. The updated version of the Accepted Practices Guidelines for Stock Assessments will be posted on the Pacific Council’s website shortly after the meeting. No management actions will be decided by the SSC CPS Subcommittee. The SSC CPS Subcommittee members’ role will be the development of recommendations for consideration by West Coast CPS stock assessment scientists.
