The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Pacific Council) ad-hoc Klamath River Fall Chinook Workgroup will hold an online meeting that is open to the public. The meeting will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, or until business for the day concludes,  and if needed, the meeting will resume on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, or until business for the day concludes.

This meeting is being conducted remotely with a web broadcast that provides the opportunity for remote public comment. In the event an outage occurs or technical issues arise that impact the experience of remote attendees, we will attempt to resolve them but ultimately we cannot guarantee that they will be resolved satisfactorily.

Purpose of the meeting

The primary purpose of the meeting is to discuss and develop preliminary recommendations to inform Pacific Council decision making at the March and April 2024 Pacific Council meetings for the 2024 salmon pre-season management process as it relates to Klamath River Fall Chinook management.  Additional discussion on Klamath River Dam removal, monitoring, hatchery production, etc. and workload planning may also occur.

Purpose of the meeting

The purpose of the groundfish methodology review meeting is a follow-up to the prior review recommendations from the May 9, 2023 meeting, which aimed to evaluate proposed data inputs, modeling approaches, potential improvements, and any other pertinent information related to the sablefish trip limit model used in commercial non-trawl fisheries management. This review is planned in preparation for the 2025-2026 biennial groundfish management cycle.  The results of this review are not considered final until reviewed by the full SSC at a future Pacific Council meeting. 

No management actions will be decided by the meeting participants. The participants’ role will be the development of recommendations and reports for consideration by the SSC and the Pacific Council at a future Pacific Council meeting.  The Pacific Council and Scientific and Statistical Committee will consider methodology review recommendations for use in informing management decisions at their November 2023 meeting in Garden Grove, California.

The GMT will discuss items related to groundfish management and administrative matters on the Pacific Council’s agenda. The GMT may also address other assignments relating to groundfish management. The purpose of the SSC CPS Subcommittee’s meeting is to update best practices for conducting CPS stock assessments.  Recommendations of SSC CPS Subcommittee members will inform the Accepted Practices Guidelines for Stock Assessments in 2024, which is a compilation of guidelines for CPS stock assessment scientists.  The full SSC and the Pacific Council will review the Accepted Practices Guidelines for Stock Assessments as recommended by the SSC CPS Subcommittee at the November Pacific Council meeting. The updated version of the Accepted Practices Guidelines for Stock Assessments will be posted on the Pacific Council’s website shortly after the meeting. No management actions will be decided by the SSC CPS Subcommittee.  The SSC CPS Subcommittee members’ role will be the development of recommendations for consideration by West Coast CPS stock assessment scientists.
