Call for nominations for the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council (NOAA Fisheries, US Fish and Wildlife Service)

On behalf of Janet Coit and in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA Fisheries is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council (Council), a Federal Advisory Committee.  The Council will provide advice to the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Commerce on aquatic conservation and restoration endeavors in fresh, estuarine, and marine environments that benefit recreational fishery resources, enhance recreational boating, and encourage partnerships among industry, the public, and government to advance these efforts.

Nominations will be accepted to fill the 16 discretionary seats on the Council. Nominees should be  senior-level representatives of recreational fishing, boating, and aquatic resource conservation organizations. Applications must be submitted by May 11, 2023.  Nominations should include a resume that provides contact information and a description of the nominee’s qualifications that would enable the Department of the Interior and the Department of Commerce to make an informed decision regarding the candidate’s suitability to serve on the Council. Please email nominations to Tom McCann, Designated Federal Officer, Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council, at thomas_mccann@fws.gov

As amended by the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (PL 117-58), the Council allows the Department of the Interior and the Department of Commerce to leverage the expertise of the boating and fishing public to guide efforts to improve conservation and recreation programs. Council members also provide their unique perspectives on federal fishing and boating programs, permitting issues, and outreach and education initiatives related to these topics.

The Council is separate and distinct from the Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee that provides advice to the Secretary of Commerce on a broad array of living marine resource matters under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide expertise on aquatic conservation endeavors that benefit recreational fishery resources and recreational boating and that encourage partnerships among industry, the public, and the government. Help us spread the word by distributing this announcement to your networks!
