Ad Hoc Klamath River Fall Chinook Workgroup to hold online meeting August 6, 2024

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Pacific Council) Ad-Hoc Klamath River Fall Chinook Workgroup will hold an online meeting which is open to the public. The meeting will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 3 p.m. Pacific Time, or until business for the day concludes.

This meeting is being conducted remotely with a web broadcast that provides the opportunity for remote public comment. Purpose of the meeting

The primary purpose of the meeting is to discuss and further develop interim management measures, or a management framework, intended to address the response of Klamath River fall Chinook to the dynamic nature of the Klamath River environment and the available habitat immediately following dam removal, and post-dam removal until the natural environment is stabilized and the salmon population is more predictable.  Additional discussions may include, but are not limited to, future meetings, workload planning, and upcoming items on the Pacific Council’s agenda.

Ad Hoc Equity & Environmental Justice Committee online meeting August 1, 2024

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Pacific Council) will convene an online meeting of its Ad Hoc Equity and Environmental Justice Committee (EEJC). This online meeting is open to the public and will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time.  The scheduled ending time for this meeting is an estimate and will adjourn when business for the day is completed.

The EEJC will have an organizational meeting to discuss the NMFS EEJ Strategy Regional Implementation Plan.  This committee was formed by the Pacific Council at its April 2023 meeting to assist the Council in addressing EEJ issues and, in particular, to advise the Council on working with NMFS on the Regional Implementation Plan and the geographic strategic plan.  No management actions will be decided by the EEJC, but recommendations may be provided to the Pacific Council at its September 18-23, 2024 meeting.  A detailed agenda for the webinar will be available on the Pacific Council’s website prior to the meeting.

Purpose of the Meeting

The Pacific Council created the Ad Hoc Committee of the Whole, composed of Pacific Council members, to make recommendations on Council operations in light of the Pacific Council’s medium and long-term financial status. Based on the Committee’s recommendations, the Pacific Council’s Executive Director has proposed potential changes to Pacific Council operations in line with anticipated budget ceilings for the next three to five years. The Council will consider these recommendations at its June meeting and provide guidance on further development and implementation of any such changes. In this online briefing Pacific Council staff will present these recommendations for Pacific Council advisory bodies and the public to allow informed comment at the June Pacific Council meeting.
