Salmon Subcommittee of the Scientific and Statistical Committee to hold online meeting June 4, 2021

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Pacific Council) Scientific and Statistical Committee’s (SSC’s) Salmon Subcommittee will meet to review the SSC’s role in reviewing salmon forecast methodologies and other analyses informing Pacific Council decisions as specified in the Pacific Coast Salmon Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and in Council Operating Procedure (COP) 15. The SSC Salmon Subcommittee may also discuss how best scientific information available (BSIA) determinations for salmon decision-making might be structured. The online meeting will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

Sablefish management strategy evaluation workshop to be held online April 27-28, 2021

The Pacific Sablefish Transboundary Assessment Team (PSTAT), in collaboration with the Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC), Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC), Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC), and North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC), is holding a public workshop to solicit feedback on the ongoing range-wide sablefish management strategy evaluation (MSE).

Groundfish Management Team to hold online meeting March 26, 2021

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Pacific Council) will convene a webinar meeting of its Groundfish Management Team (GMT) to discuss items on the Pacific Council’s April 2021 meeting agenda. Habitat Committee to hold online meeting February 24, 2021

Purpose of the meeting

Representatives of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration will present information related to the identification of Aquaculture Opportunity Areas, and representatives of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Development will provide a presentation on identifying potential offshore wind energy sites.  The HC and other Pacific Council advisory bodies will consider the information and will develop reports to the Pacific Council for its March 2021 meeting.

The HC may discuss other habitat-related issues related to the Pacific Council’s March meeting agenda, as necessary.  A meeting agenda will be posted to the Pacific Council’s website in advance of the meeting.

The purpose of this meeting is for the GAP to discuss potential fishery management changes regarding non-trawl rockfish conservation area management and future implementation of fishing gear used under the Emley/Platt exempted fishing permit.  This discussion is in support of a tentatively scheduled agenda item for the April 2021 Pacific Council meeting. The GAP may also discuss other items on the Pacific Council’s March or April agenda, particularly ecosystem or administrative matters.
