Ad Hoc Ecosystem Workgroup to Hold Webinar October 25, 2018

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Ad Hoc Ecosystem Workgroup (EWG) will hold a meeting via webinar, which is open to the public.  The webinar will be held October 25, 2018, from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time) or when business for the day has been completed.

Purpose of the Webinar

The EWG will discuss the contents of its report to the Council in response to preliminary recommendations from the Council’s Ad Hoc Climate Scenarios Investigation Committee. The EWG will also plan tasks and work product in connection with the Fishery Ecosystem Plan five-year review and the Climate and Communities Initiative.

Ad Hoc Climate Scenarios Investigation Committee to Hold Webinar October 23

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Ad Hoc Climate Scenarios Investigation Committee (CSI) will hold a meeting via webinar, which is open to the public.  The webinar will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2018, from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time).  The Pacific Council formed the CSI in September 2018 to guide the development of future climate scenarios that will be developed under the Fishery Ecosystem Plan Climate and Communities Initiative. The CSI will report to the Pacific Council at its November 1-8, 2018 meeting on its work (see Agenda Item F.6.a, Supplemental Tri-State Report, September 2018).

Video Guide to the September 2018 Western Road Map Implementation Plan, 2018-2022 Review Draft (Recorded Webinar)

The chair of the Council’s Ad Hoc Ecosystem Workgroup, Ms. Yvonne de Reynier, has prepared a short (~8 min.) video guide recorded on August 23, 2018 that applies to the Western Road Map Implementation Plan, 2018-2022 Review Draft.

The Council is tentatively scheduled to review and provide direction on revisions to the Western Road Map Implementation Plan on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at its meeting in Seattle, Washington.

Public Comment Deadlines for the September 2018 Briefing Book

September 2018 briefing book public comment deadlines

  • Public comment materials received BY 5:00 pm (Pacific Time), Thursday, August 9, 2018, will be mailed to Council members and appropriate advisory bodies prior to the meeting.
  • Public comment materials received at the Council office after the Thursday, August 9, 5:00 pm deadline, but BY 5:00 pm (Pacific Time), Monday, August 27, 2018 will be included in the supplemental materials distributed to the Council on the first day of the meeting (this is known as the supplemental public comment deadline).
  • You may email your comments to:
    pfmc.comments@noaa.gov or send to the Council office.
  • If your comments contain a PowerPoint or Video presentation, see “How to Submit PowerPoint Presentations or Videos“ below.

Public Comment Guidelines “After the Monday, August 27, 2018 5 PM” Deadline

  • Comments received AFTER the August 27, 5 pm date specified above will not be photocopied and distributed by the Council staff.
  • For late comments after the August 27, 5 pm date specified above, individuals need to hand deliver their comments to the Council Secretariat (Cascade 1/2 Room) at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport, no later than 5 p.m. the day before the corresponding agenda item is scheduled on the Council’s agenda. These written submissions should include the submitter’s name, the Council agenda item number, and the Council meeting date.
  • Comments will be accepted in electronic form and hard copy.

The public should be aware that the Council does not have time to thoroughly review extensive written comments submitted at the meeting. The Council’s advisory bodies may not have a chance to review such comment.   The Council will not pay for comments transmitted to the meeting hotel.   Comments submitted that are not in support of oral testimony will be included in the briefing materials for the next Council meeting.

How to Submit PowerPoint Presentations or Videos

If your comments contain a PowerPoint presentation or video, such PowerPoints and videos need to be turned in no later than 5 pm the day before the corresponding agenda item is scheduled on the Council’s agenda.  PowerPoints and videos must be sent to:  Kris.Kleinschmidt@noaa.gov.   Please see the Protocol Policy on submitting electronic slide presentation materials at the Council meetings for full direction, expectations, and equipment available for use during presentations.

Purpose of the Webinar

The EWG is holding this webinar to help other Council advisory bodies and the public prepare comments on two topics the Council will take up at its September 5-12, 2018 meeting. First, the Council will be deciding on future activities as part of the Climate and Communities Initiative pursuant to its Fishery Ecosystem Plan (FEP). Second, the Council will be scoping the first 5-year review of the FEP. The Council may consider initiating revisions to FEP and forming any new ad hoc committees necessary to revise the Plan.

Availability of an interactive web tool designed to support decision making on Amendment 28

The Pacific Fishery Management Council announces the availability of an interactive web tool designed to support decision making on Amendment 28 (essential fish habitat and rockfish conservation area modifications for Pacific Coast groundfish).

The Council is scheduled to take final action on Amendment 28 at the April Council meeting, on Monday April 9, 2018.

Ecosystem Workgroup to Hold Webinar Tuesday, May 22

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Ad Hoc Ecosystem Workgroup (EWG) will hold a webinar, which is open to the public, on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, starting at 9:30 a.m. and lasting approximately three hours.

Purpose of the Webinar

Two primary topics will be discussed by the EWG during this webinar. First, the EWG will discuss and finalize comments on the Pacific Council’s draft 2018 Research and Data Needs document. This report communicates the Pacific Council’s research and data needs through 2023, fulfilling the Council’s responsibilities under section 302(h)(7) of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. The Pacific Council will review the draft document and consider comments from its advisory bodies and the public at its June 8-13, 2018 meeting. Second, the EWG will discuss the Fishery Ecosystem Plan Climate and Communities Initiative. The EWG may also review and discuss items on the June 7-13, 2018, Council meeting agenda and other ecosystem-related topics on future Council meeting agendas.
