Requirements when fishing in the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission Convention Area (generally west of 150° W long.)

Monday, April 18th, 2011

West coast albacore fishermen should be aware of requirements when fishing in the area west of 150° W long., which is the “Convention Area” for the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission. NMFS Pacific Regional Office promulgated regulations in 2010 for compliance by U.S. vessels with Commission requirements. For more information they have produced a compliance guide. NMFS Southwest Region also provided information about VMS requirements for vessels fishing in the Convention Area at the April 2011 Council meeting, see this letter.
