September 2015 Briefing Book Available Online

The Briefing Book for the September 2015 Council meeting has been posted to the Council’s website on the “Briefing Book” webpage. The Briefing Book contains “situation summaries” (brief summaries that provide background for each agenda item), reports and materials for each agenda item, and written public comment. Advisory body and committee agendas and memos are also available.

The September 2015 Council meeting will also be live‐streamed on the internet beginning at 9:00 AM Pacific Time (PT) Friday, September 11, 2015 through Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Broadcasts end daily at 6:00 PM PT or when business for the day is complete. Only the audio portion and presentations displayed on the screen at the Council meeting will be broadcast. The audio portion is listen‐only; you will be unable to speak to the Council via the broadcast. Please see the September 2015 agenda.

National Ocean Council Committee on IUU fishing and seafood fraud to hold public webinar August 25, 2015

The National Ocean Council Committee on IUU fishing and Seafood Fraud (NOC Committee) is seeking comment on its draft list of principles for determining species “at risk” of IUU fishing and seafood fraud, as well as a draft list of “at risk” species.

The public comment period is currently open. The NOC is offering an opportunity to comment via public webinar on August 25, 2015, from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. For information on that webinar as well as the public comment submission process, and the draft list of principles, please see NOAA’s Presidential Initiative on Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing and Seafood Fraud website.

Coastal Pelagic Species Management Team and Coastal Pelagic Species Advisory Subpanel to Hold Webinar

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) will convene a webinar meeting of its Coastal Pelagic Species Management Team (CPSMT) and Coastal Pelagic Species Advisory Subpanel (CPSAS). The meeting is open to the public. The primary purpose of the meeting is to discuss agenda items on the September Council meeting and to discuss future meeting plans.

Salmon Technical Team, Salmon Advisory Subpanel, and Model Evaluation Workgroup to Hold Webinar

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Salmon Technical Team (STT), Salmon Advisory Subpanel (SAS), and Model Evaluation Workgroup (MEW) will hold a webinar on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, which is open to the public. The webinar will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will continue until business for the day is completed, but is expected to end no later than 5 p.m. The STT, SAS, and MEW will discuss items on the Council’s September 2015 meeting agenda. Major topics include: Salmon Methodology Review, Sacramento River Winter Chinook Update, 2016 Pacific Halibut Catch Sharing Plan and Annual Regulations, and the Unmanaged Forage Fish Regulations. The STT, SAS, and MEW may also address one or more of the Council’s scheduled Administrative Matters.

Specific agenda topics include inseason adjustments to groundfish fisheries, electronic monitoring regulations and exempted fishing permits updates, and development of a midwater sport fishery in Oregon and California.
