Ecosystem Plan Development Team to Hold a Work Session July 21, 2010

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) will convene a meeting of the Ecosystem Plan Development Team (EPDT) that is open to the public.  Please note, this is not a public hearing; it is a work session for the primary purpose of reviewing comments of the Ecosystem Advisory Subpanel (EAS) and drafting a report to the Council on initial stages of developing an Ecosystem Fishery Management Plan (EFMP).

The EPDT will meet on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and concluding at 5:00 p.m., or when business that day is completed.  The EPDT meeting will include a working lunch session.

The Council’s EPDT has taken the lead in preparing a Council-requested report on developing an EFMP that includes a draft statement of purpose and need, a draft list of possible initial goals and objectives, and a draft range of options on the geographic range, managed species, and regulatory scope of the EFMP.  The EAS met on May 4, 2010 to review a draft of the report and to provide comments to the EPDT.  The final report is scheduled to be presented to the Council at its September 2010 meeting in Boise, Idaho.

Groundfish Amendment 20 Final EIS Released

Amendment 20 Final EIS Released

On June 25, 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency published a Notice of Availability for the “Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for Rationalization of the Pacific Coast Groundfish Limited Entry Trawl Fishery”. A 30-day cooling off period commenced, ending July 26, 2010.

Amendment 21 Final EIS Released: June 2010; 30-Day Cooling Off Period Ends July 26, 2010

On June 25, 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency published a Notice of Availability for the “Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for Allocation of Harvest Opportunity between Sectors of the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery”.

NMFS Proposes Measures to Initiate Implementation of Groundfish Amendments 20 and 21

The proposed measures to initiate implementation of Amendments 20 and 21 to the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery Management Plan was published by the Office of the Federal Register on June 10, 2010. The public comment period for the above amendment package will end on July 12, 2010. Instructions for submitting public comments are included in the Federal Register notice.

Ad Hoc Regulatory Deeming Workgroup Meeting June 30-July 1, 2010

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) will hold a meeting of its Ad Hoc Regulatory Deeming Workgroup (Workgroup). The meeting is open to the public.

The Workgroup meeting will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until business for the day is completed and Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until business for the day is completed.

Groundfish Management Team to Meet June 28 – July 1, 2010

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Groundfish Management Team (GMT) will hold a work session which is open to the public.

The purpose of the GMT work session is to complete analyses for the 2011-12 Groundfish Harvest Specifications and Management Measures Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).  The main task will be completing any analysis of the Council’s preferred alternative for groundfish harvest specifications and management measures for the next biennium.

The GMT meeting will be held Monday, June 28, 2010 from 1 p.m. until business for the day is completed.  The GMT meeting will reconvene Tuesday, June 29 through Thursday, July 1, from 8:30 a.m. until business for each day is completed.

Updated hydrokinetics database posted

An updated version of the Council’s wave and tidal energy database has been posted here.  There have been no new projects added since the database was last posted in April, although some projects, like the Reedsport OPT project and the Humboldt WaveConnect project (PGE), are moving ahead.

June 2010 Briefing Book Available on Council Website

The Briefing Book for the June 2010 Council meeting has been posted to the Council’s website on the “Current Briefing Book” webpage. The Briefing Book contains “situation summaries” (brief summaries that provide background for each agenda item), reports and materials for each agenda item, and written public comment.
