Council sends letter to Bureau of Reclamation on Central Valley salmon

The Council has sent a letter to Donald R. Glaser, the Regional Director of the Mid-Pacific Region of the Bureau of Reclamation, on the use of 800,000 acre-feet
of Central Valley Project (CVP) water for rebuilding Central Valley salmon stocks. The letter is available here.

Salmon Advisory Subpanel to Hold Conference Call Monday, June 7, 2010

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Salmon Advisory Subpanel (SAS) will hold a work session by conference call to review briefing materials and develop recommendations for the June Council meeting in Foster City, California.  The primary topic will be alternatives for Amendment 16 to the Salmon Fishery Management Plan – Annual Catch Limits and Accountability Measures.

The conference call will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.

This meeting is open to the public through a listening station at the Council office:

The Pacific Fishery Management Council and its advisory bodies will meet June 12-17, 2010 in Foster City, California, to address issues related to salmon, groundfish, coastal pelagic species, highly migratory species, and habitat matters. Update on Status of Groundfish Amendments 20 and 21

NMFS Announces that the Pacific Fishery Management Council has Submitted Amendments 20 and 21 to the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery Management Plan to the Secretary of Commerce. View the Federal Register notice published May 12, 2010.

That draft fishery management plan language submitted to the Secretary of Commerce has been posted to the Council’s website.

ODFW to Hold Groundfish Management Meetings

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to Hold Five Meetings That Focus on Groundfish Management

ODFW to hold meetings in five Oregon ports to discuss sport and commercial groundfish issues for 2011 and 2012.

The meetings will be held:

  • Astoria, 7 to 9 p.m. May 17 at the Holiday Inn Express, 204 W. Marine Drive;
  • Newport, 7 to 9 p.m. May 18 at the Holiday Inn Express, 135 SE 32nd St.;
  • North Bend, 6 to 8 p.m. May 19 at the North Bend Library, 1800 Sherman Ave.;
  • Brookings, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. May 20 at the Best Western Beachfront Inn, 16008 Boat Basin Road, Harbor;
  • Port Orford, 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 at the Port Orford Library, 1421 Oregon St.

Materials available for upcoming ecosystem management meeting

The Ecosystem Advisory Subpanel will be meeting on May 4 at the Council office in Portland.  The agenda is now available here. They will be reviewing a draft report (available here), prepared by the Ecosystem Plan Development Team, on developing an ecosystem fishery management plan. The draft discusses the purpose and need for the plan, initial goals and objectives, options for the plan’s geographic range and regulatory scope, and which species should be managed under the plan.  Members of the Plan Development Team will be there to review the report and respond to questions. The final report will be presented to the Council at its June 2010 meeting in Foster City, California. Please note that this is not a public hearing, but a work session for the Ecosystem Advisory Subpanel.
