Pacific Sardine Stock Assessment Review Panel Meeting February 21-24 in La Jolla

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) will convene a Stock Assessment Review (STAR) Panel Tuesday, February 21 through Friday, February 24, 2017, in La Jolla, California.  The meeting is open to the public.  The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, and will begin at 8 a.m. each subsequent day, and conclude each day at 5 p.m., or when business for the day has been completed. The meeting may adjourn early on Friday, February 24, if business has been completed.

The primary purpose of the meeting is to review a stock assessment for Pacific sardine.  The last full stock assessment was in 2014, with update assessments completed in 2015 and 2016.  The STAR Panel will consist of three members of the Council’s Scientific and Statistical Committee, and two independent experts.  The Council will use the 2017 assessment to establish annual sardine fishery management measures and harvest specifications for the 2017-18 fishing year.  The Pacific sardine fishing year begins July 1 and ends June 30 of the following year.  Representatives of the Council’s CPS Management Team and the CPS Advisory Subpanel will also attend the meeting.
