Council Makes Habitat Assignments for June

At their April Council meeting in Vancouver, Washington, the Council directed the Habitat Committee to draft the following letters for the June Briefing Book:

  • A letter on the Cordell Bank and Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary boundary expansion
  • A letter on a NMFS pilot effort to identify habitat conservation objectives for managed species on the West Coast, highlighting the connections between this project and the Council’s research and data priorities
  • A letter on the Northwest Power and Conservation Council Fish and Wildlife Program
  • A letter on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plan to reduce the double-crested cormorant predation on Columbia River basin juvenile salmonids listed under the Endangered
    Species Act

The Council also directed the Habitat Committee to arrange a presentation from KZO Sea Farms on their proposed aquaculture facility. The committee will also be discussing Klamath/Trinity water flows and other issues.  Prior to the June meeting, Council staff will send letters (drafted by the Habitat Committee and approved by the Council, with edits) on the Bay/Delta Conservation Project and on the PMEC/SETS project.
