Salmon Technical Team and Habitat Committee Subcommittees to Hold Joint Work Session (August 31, 2010)

Subcommittees of the Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Salmon Technical Team (STT) and Habitat Committee (HC) will hold a joint work session to develop an overfishing assessment for Sacramento River fall Chinook. This meeting is open to the public.

When a salmon stock managed by the Council fails to meet its conservation objective for three consecutive years, an overfishing concern is triggered according to the terms of the Pacific Coast Salmon Plan (Salmon Plan).  The Salmon Plan requires the Council to direct its STT and HC to undertake a review of the status of the stock in question and determine if excessive harvest was responsible for the shortfall, if other factors were involved, and the significance of the stock depression with regard to achieving maximum sustainable yield.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the following location:

California Department of Fish and Game
Santa Rosa Field Office
475 Aviation Blvd., Suite 130
