Attention PFMC authorized travelers: February 2017 Travel Rules available on our website

We have made available on our Travel and Reimbursement webpage an updated version of the PFMC Travel Rules, dated February 2017. Please take the time to read through the travel rules.

All nonfederal Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) members of the Council, Scientific and Statistical Committee, advisory subpanels, technical teams, work groups, ad hoc committees, staff, special consultants, and individuals of specific invitation to travel are eligible to receive reimbursement for limited per diem travel expenses when away from their home station or while away from their work location in the metropolitan area of their residence, when authorized to travel for Council-related purposes. Travel expenses for which reimbursement is allowable will be confined to those expenses essential to transacting official Council business.


March 2017 Briefing Book Available Online

Notice of Availability

The Briefing Book for the March 2017 Council meeting has been posted to the Council’s website on the “March 2017 Briefing Book” webpage. The Briefing Book contains “situation summaries” (brief summaries that provide background for each agenda item), reports and materials for each agenda item, and written public comment. Advisory body and committee agendas and memos are also available.


March 7-13, 2017 Council Meeting Notice and Agenda

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory bodies will meet March 7-13, 2017 in Vancouver, Washington. Advisory bodies will start Tuesday, March 7. The Council session will start on Wednesday, March 8 to address issues related to salmon, groundfish, highly migratory species, ecosystem, Pacific halibut, and habitat matters.

Scientific and Statistical Committee’s Economics Subcommittee to Hold Webinar Thursday, February 9

The Pacific Fishery Management Council’s (Council) Scientific and Statistical Committee’s Economics Subcommittee (Economics Subcommittee) will hold a webinar on Thursday, February 9, 2017, which is open to the public.  The webinar will begin at 9 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time) and is expected to end at 5 p.m. or when business for the day is complete. The primary purpose of the meeting is to discuss a methodology for examining socioeconomic impacts of the Council’s policies for the modification of essential fish habitat designations and rockfish conservation areas under Amendment 28 to the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery Management Plan.  Part of the overall project analysis will focus on the potential socioeconomic impacts of these spatial management changes on harvesters and fishing communities.

NMFS Publishes Final Rule: “List of Fisheries for 2017”

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) publishes its final List of Fisheries (LOF) for 2017, as required by the Marine Mammal Protection Act.  The final LOF for 2017 reflects new information on interactions between commercial fisheries and marine mammals.

This final rule is effective February 13, 2017. Information regarding the LOF may be obtained from the NMFS LOF website. You may also download the Final Rule published January 12, 2017.

Public Comment Deadline for the March 2017 Briefing Book

Public Comment Deadline – March 2017 Advance Briefing Book

Public comment materials received BY 5:00 pm, Tuesday, February 7, 2017, will be mailed to Council members and appropriate advisory bodies prior to the March meeting. This is known as the “Advance Briefing Book Deadline.”

Supplemental Public Comment Deadline

Public comment materials received at the Council office after the February 7, 5:00 pm deadline, but BY 5:00 pm, Tuesday, February 28, 2017 will be included in the supplemental materials distributed to the Council on the first day of the March meeting. This is known as the “Supplemental Public Comment Deadline.”
