Groundfish Rebuilding Plans
Update on Rebuilding Plans
At their June 16-20, 2003, meeting, the Council took final action on adopting a framework and rebuilding plans for four of the eight groundfish species declared overfished.
Rebuilding plans will be incorporated into the Groundfish Fishery Management Plan (FMP) as Amendment 16. Because of its complexity, the amendment process was divided into the following separate actions:

Amendment 16-1: Process and Standards for Rebuilding Plans. The Council took final action in June 2003; the amendment was approved by NMFS on November 17, 2003. NMFS issued the final rule for this action on February 26, 2004.

Amendment 16-2: Rebuilding plans for canary rockfish, Pacific ocean perch, lingcod, and darkblotched rockfish. The Council took final action in June 2003; it was approved by NMFS on January 30, 2004. NMFS issued the final rule for this action on April 13, 2004.

Amendment 16-3: Rebuilding plans for bocaccio, cowcod, widow rockfish, and yelloweye rockfish. The Council took final action in June 2004; the amendment was approved by NMFS on September 13, 2004. The final rule for this action was published on September 28, 2004.

Amendment 16-4. Revaluation of rebuilding plans for seven depleted Pacific Coast groundfish species. The Council took final action in June 2006. NMFS partially approved Amendment 16-4 in November 2006. The final rule for this action was published on December 29, 2006 (corrected March 20, 2007).
