Yelloweye Rockfish Survey Design Workshop
Workshop Date: December 1, 2009
For the past few years, the Washington and Oregon Departments of Fish and Wildlife have provided funds to the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) to extend their annual Pacific halibut longline survey to areas where yelloweye rockfish occur. Catch per unit effort data collected in the extended yelloweye rockfish survey is intended to inform an index of abundance of yelloweye rockfish for use in assessment. The IPHC survey index was used for the first time in the 2009 yelloweye rockfish assessment. Critical evaluation of that survey during the stock assessment review panel meeting for the 2009 yelloweye rockfish assessment led to a recommendation to redesign the survey to better index yelloweye abundance. A yelloweye rockfish survey design workshop is therefore scheduled to improve this survey.
