Council to Adopt 2008 Ocean Salmon Management Measures
Council Meeting Dates: April 6-12, 2008
The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory entities will
meet April 6-12, 2008, in Seattle, Washington to address issues related to salmon,
Pacific halibut, groundfish, highly migratory species, essential fish habitat, and
marine protected areas.
Agenda
Key agenda items include Council action to:

Adopt final 2008 ocean salmon management measures.

Adopt 2008 incidental catch regulations for Pacific halibut in salmon
troll and sablefish fisheries.

Consider inseason adjustments to the 2008 groundfish fishery.
-
Adopt the preferred alternative under Amendment 21 to the
Groundfish Fishery Management Plan for implementing intersector
allocations.
-
Adopt for public review, a preliminary range of management
measures and consider a preferred alternative for 2009-10 groundfish
fisheries.
-
Adopt final recommendations for a longline exempted fishing permit
in the highly migratory species fishery in the West Coast exclusive
economic zone.

Develop recommendations to the U.S. Section of the Inter-American
Tropical Tuna Commission for management of eastern Pacific highly
migratory species.

Public Comment Guidelines
The public is encouraged to comment, either verbally at the meeting or in writing.
Timing of agenda items may change as the meeting progresses, and items not
completed on the scheduled day will be carried over to later in the meeting, usually
the next day.
Oral Public Comments

Oral public comments will be accepted prior to action on each agenda item.

Public comments on fishery issues not on the agenda will be accepted as listed
in the agenda on Monday, April 7.
Written Public Comments

Written public comments are accepted by the Council at any time. However,
the public is encouraged to submit written comments as far in advance of the
meeting as possible.

Comments received by 11:59 p.m. April 1, 2008 will be distributed to Council members at the onset of the meeting.

If you cannot meet this latter deadline, but would like your written comments
distributed to Council members when you testify at the meeting, please bring
40 copies to the meeting with the Agenda Item Topic Number in the upper
right corner of the front page of each copy. Refer to the Agenda for the topic numbers; i.e. Agenda Item F.1.k refers to public comment on the first item under Salmon Management.
