Council to Adopt Range of Options for 2008 Ocean Salmon Fisheries
and Set 2008 Pacific Whiting Fishery Management Measures
Council Meeting Dates: March 8-14, 2008
The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory entities will
meet March 8-14, 2008, in Sacramento, California to address issues related to
salmon, Pacific halibut, groundfish, highly migratory species, and essential fish
habitat.
Agenda
Key agenda items include Council action to:

Adopt options for the 2008 ocean salmon fisheries for public review.

Review the Klamath River Fall Chinook Stock Assessment and make
management recommendations.

Adopt 2008 incidental catch regulations for Pacific halibut in salmon troll and
sablefish fisheries.

Adopt final recommendations to address overfishing of yellowfin tuna.
-
Consider alternatives for the high seas shallow-set longline fishery and consider,
for public review, an exempted fishing permit for longline fishing in the west
coast exclusive economic zone.

Adopt final management recommendations for the 2008 Pacific whiting fishery.

Consider inseason adjustments to the 2008 groundfish fishery.

Adopt for public review, groundfish open access license limitation alternatives.

Recommend for review and analysis, tracking and monitoring provisions for the
trawl rationalization program.

Public Comment Guidelines
The public is encouraged to comment, either verbally at the meeting or in writing.
Timing of agenda items may change as the meeting progresses, and items not completed
on the scheduled day will be carried over to later in the meeting, usually the next day.
Oral Public Comments

Oral public comments will be accepted prior to action on each agenda item.
Written Public Comments

Written public comments are accepted by the Council at any time. However, the public is encouraged to submit written comments as far in advance of the meeting as possible.

Comments received by 11:59 pm on February 20, 2008 will be included in the briefing books mailed to Council members prior to the meeting.

Comments received after February 20, 2007 but by 11:59 pm on March 4, 2008 will be distributed to Council members at the onset of the meeting.

If you cannot meet this latter deadline, but would like your written comments
distributed to Council members when you testify at the meeting, please bring 40 three-hole punched copies to the meeting with the Agenda Item Topic Number in the upper right corner of the front page of each copy. Refer to the agenda for the topic numbers; i.e. Agenda Item G.1.e refers to public comment on the first item under Salmon Management.
