Fishery Management Issues
Council Meeting Dates: September 9-14, 2007
The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory entities will meet
September 9-14, 2007, in Portland, Oregon to address issues related to groundfish, highly
migratory species, Pacific halibut, salmon, and essential fish habitat.
Agenda
Key agenda items include Council action to:

Approve stock assessments for developing 2009-2010 groundfish fishery
management measures.

Adopt a final preferred alternative for limiting participation in the Pacific
whiting fishery.

Consider inseason adjustments to the 2007 groundfish fishery.

Consider need, planning and potential options to establish a high seas
limited entry longline fishery.

Adopt public review alternatives to address overfishing of yellowfin tuna.

Consider proposed changes to the Pacific halibut catch sharing plan for
2008.

Establish final methodology review priorities to ensure the best available science is used for the 2008 salmon season.

Public Comment Guidelines
The public is encouraged to comment, either verbally at the meeting or in writing.
Timing of agenda items may change as the meeting progresses, and items not completed
on the scheduled day will be carried over to later in the meeting, usually the next day.
Oral Public Comments

Oral public comments will be accepted prior to action on each agenda item.

Public comments on fishery issues NOT on the agenda will be accepted as listed in the agenda on Monday, September 10, 2007 (Agenda Item C. Open Public Comment).
Written Public Comments

Written public comments are accepted by the Council at any time. However, the public is encouraged to submit written comments as far in advance of the meeting as possible.

Comments received by 11:59 pm on August 22, 2007 will be included in the briefing books mailed to Council members prior to the meeting.

Comments received after August 22, 2007 but by 11:59 pm on September 4, 2007 will be distributed to Council members at the onset of the meeting. Comments received at the Council office after September 4 will not be distributed at the meeting, and will not be included in the meeting record.

If you cannot meet this latter deadline, but would like your written comments
distributed to Council members when you testify at the meeting, please bring 40 three-hole punched copies to the meeting with the Agenda Item Topic Number in the upper right corner of the front page of each copy. Refer to the agenda for the topic numbers; for example, Agenda Item B.1.c refers to public comment on the first item under Administrative Matters on the September agenda.
