Council to Adopt 2007 Ocean Salmon Management Measures

Council Meeting Dates: April 2-6, 2007

The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory entities will meet April 2-6, 2007, in Seattle, Washington to address issues related to salmon, Pacific halibut, groundfish, highly migratory species, and essential fish habitat.

Agenda

Key agenda items include Council action to:

  • Adopt final 2007 ocean salmon management measures.
  • Adopt 2007 incidental catch regulations for Pacific halibut in salmon troll and sablefish fisheries.
  • Consider inseason adjustments to the 2007 groundfish fishery.
  • Consider preliminary alternatives for analysis for Groundfish Fishery Management Plan Amendment 15 regarding the American Fisheries Act.
  • Identify a course of action to address overfishing of yellowfin tuna.
  • Select a preferred alternative for a longline exempted fishing permit in the West Coast exclusive economic zone.
  • Direct implementation of requirements resulting from reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Act.

Public Comment Guidelines

The public is encouraged to comment, either verbally at the meeting or in writing. Timing of agenda items may change as the meeting progresses, and items not completed on the scheduled day will be carried over to later in the meeting, usually the next day.

Oral Public Comments

  • Oral public comments will be accepted prior to action on each agenda item.
  • Public comments on fishery issues NOT on the agenda will be accepted as listed in the agenda on Monday, April 2, 2007 (Agenda Item D. Open Public Comment).

Written Public Comments

  • Written public comments are accepted by the Council at any time. However, the public is encouraged to submit written comments as far in advance of the meeting as possible.
  • Comments received by close of business March 16, 2007 will be included in the briefing books mailed to Council members prior to the meeting.
  • Comments received after March 16, 2007 but by close of business March 27, 2007 will be distributed to Council members at the onset of the meeting.
  • If you cannot meet this latter deadline, but would like your written comments distributed to Council members when you testify at the meeting, please bring 40 copies to the meeting with the Agenda Item Topic Number in the upper right corner of the front page of each copy. Refer to the agenda for the topic numbers; for example, Agenda Item G.1.e refers to public comment on the first item under Salmon Management.
