Council to Consider: Highly Migratory Species Fishery Management Plan, Salmon Management Process, Pacific Halibut Fishery, Groundfish Inseason Management, Pacific Sardine Harvest Guidelines
The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory entities will meet October 28-November 1, 2002, in Foster City (San Francisco area), California to address issues related to salmon, highly migratory species, Pacific halibut, coastal pelagic species, groundfish, and habitat.
Key agenda items include Council action to:

Consider multi-year management of groundfish.

Consider regulation changes for Pacific halibut fisheries management in 2003.

Consider harvest guidelines for the 2003 Pacific sardine fishery.

Consider changes resulting from review of salmon methodology.

Establish hearing sites for 2003 salmon options and a preseason management schedule.

Consider inseason adjustments to some groundfish fisheries.
-
Consider final adoption of the highly migratory species fishery management plan.

All meetings are open to the public, except a closed session to be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 28, to discuss litigation and personnel matters. A block of sleeping rooms are being held under Pacific Fishery Management Council. If you would like to receive the Council room rate, give the hotel reservationist the three-letter code PFI, identify yourself to the hotel as a participant in the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting, and make your reservation immediately.
Public Comment Guidelines
The public is encouraged to comment, either verbally at the meeting, or in writing. Oral public comments on action items on the agenda will be accepted prior to action on each item. The timing of agenda items may change as the meeting progresses. Items not completed on the scheduled day will be carried over to the next day. Public comments on fishery issues not on the agenda will be accepted on Tuesday, October 29, at 4 p.m.
Written public comments are accepted by the Council at any time. However, the public is encouraged to submit written comments as far in advance of the meeting as possible. Comments received by close of business October 15, 2002 will be included in the briefing books mailed to Council members prior to the meeting. Comments received by October 22, 2002 will be distributed to Council members at the onset of the meeting.
If you cannot meet the October 22 deadline, but would like your written comments distributed to Council members at this meeting, please bring at least 40 copies with the Agenda Item Number written in the upper right corner of the front page of each copy.
