The Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council) and its advisory entities will meet June 16-21, 2002, in Foster City (San Francisco area), California to address fishery management issues for groundfish, coastal pelagic species, highly migratory species, marine reserves, and habitat. All meetings are open to the public, except a closed session to be held from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, to discuss litigation and personnel matters. A block of sleeping rooms is being held under "Pacific Fishery Management Council." To receive the Council room rate, give the hotel reservationist the three-letter code "PAF", identify yourself as a participant in the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting and make your reservation immediately.
Evening Events
Monday, June 17, Liz Clarke and personnel from the NWFSC will conduct a special session to promote clearer understanding of some of the scientific substance about the current bocaccio, yelloweye, and canary crisis. This will begin at 7 pm in the Council room, and will target questions from fishing industry people and the general public. Please make any of your constituency who have questions aware of this opportunity.
On Wednesday, June 19 after the Council breaks, with the hotel setup scheduled for 5:15, there will be a reception in either the GAP room or the meeting room near it. We will toast Dr. Hastie in honor of his recent receipt of a prestigious national award. There will be light hors d'oeuvres and a no host bar. While there will be no formal invitation, the entire Council entourage is invited.
Public Comment Guidelines
The public is encouraged to comment, either verbally at the meeting, or in writing. Oral public comments on action items on the agenda will be accepted prior to action on each item. The timing of agenda items may change as the meeting progresses. Items not completed on the scheduled day will be carried over to the next day. Public comments on fishery issues not on the agenda will be accepted on Tuesday, June 18, at 4 p.m.
Written public comments are accepted by the Council at any time. However, the public is encouraged to submit written comments as far in advance of the meeting as possible. Comments received by May 31, 2002 will be included in the briefing books mailed to Council members prior to the meeting. Comments received by June 11, 2002 will be distributed to Council members at the onset of the meeting.
If you cannot meet this latter deadline, but would like your written comments distributed to Council members at this meeting, please bring 40 copies to the meeting for distribution. Each copy must include the Agenda Item Topic Number in the upper right corner of the front page.
