The Pacific Fishery Management Council's (Council) Ad Hoc Marine Reserves Policy Committee will hold a work session, which is open to the public.

The committee will meet on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 from 1 p.m. until business for the day is completed, and on Thursday, August 15 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. unless extended by the Committee Chair.

Please note the meeting date has been changed; it was previously listed as August  and 2.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider policy recommendations for marine reserve proposals for the state waters of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary (CINMS). The Council has been tracking the development of options for marine reserves in and around the CINMS, in order to promote consistency between areas of state jurisdiction (0-3 miles offshore), federal waters of the CINMS (3-6 miles offshore), and other waters of federal jurisdiction (6-200 miles offshore). After the California Fish and Game Commission (CFGC) makes a decision on December 6 regarding the state waters of the CINMS, the Council will consider complimentary marine reserves in federal waters. This ad hoc committee will develop draft policy recommendations for state water areas, for consideration first by the full Council at their September 9 - 12 meeting in Portland, Oregon and then, depending on full Council action, by CFGC.

A meeting agenda will be available at the meeting. Limited public testimony will be taken at the beginning of the meeting.
